Low Thyroid

When the thyroid gland is sluggish or under active, or when thyroid hormone is not well assimilated by the cells of the body, then you may experience a slowing of your metabolism. We take time to ask detailed questions and to listen to your symptoms and conditions. By doing so, we can often identify problems which do not show up on routine blood tests. A blood test reveals the levels of various hormones, minerals, proteins, and antibodies only at a single moment in time. Levels may vary significantly from lab to lab. Diet, exercise, or medications can affect the results.

A blood test alone does not accurately depict or correlate with your overall health.

However, the description of your symptoms is a very accurate and helpful source of information needed to successfully treat you and place you on a path of health and wellness. You receive the most benefit from a treatment regimen based upon your clinical history, a list of symptoms and problems, as opposed to relying strictly on the results of a particular blood test.

The natural treatment of hypothyroidism is desiccated thyroid (Armour). If symptoms of low thyroid persist, then the dosage is increased incrementally until your symptoms are resolved.

Why is Armour thyroid better than synthetic forms of thyroid medication (e.g., Synthroid, Levoxyl)? Synthetic forms of thyroid contain T4, which is the INactive form of thyroid.  Armour thyroid contains T4, but also T3, which is the active form.  When someone takes a T4-containing medication, their body must convert that T4 into the active form of T3.  Many people are resistent to this internal conversion, which explains why some hypothyroid patients do not feel any better when placed on synthetic thyroid replacement.
